Abstract: All around the world many studies have been carried out and indicated that 20-50% of commercial vehicle accidents occur because of fatigue. Professional drivers represent an important category of drivers who are present in traffic every day, transporting passengers or goods and their responsibility is at a very high level. These drivers are most exposed to the impact of fatigue. In order to determine the real situation in the transportation companies, a survey has been conducted among professional drivers who are employed in transport companies across the Republic of Serbia. The research consists of collecting and analyzing the professional driver’s answers about their daily work and rest that influence the occurrence of fatigue. The results have shown that most drivers work more than it is defined by law. Also when they feel sleepy they drink coffee and listen to the radio. Drivers who change shifts drive more frequently at night and they are more often sleepy at the wheel. What restricts the research is driver’s sincerity while filling the survey. Measures have been proposed to eliminate or reduce fatigue, based on the current situation obtained from researching and international experience.
