Nojković, D., Ranković, J., Milošević, J., (2014). ANALIZA UPOTREBE ZAŠTITNIH SISTEMA DVOTOČKAŠA NA PODRUČJU LOKALNE ZAJEDNICE LAZAREVAC U 2013. GODINI. 9 th International Conference - Road Safety in Local Communities, Zaječar.

Abstract: Half of the world’s road traffic deaths occur among motorcyclists (23%), pedestrians (22%) and cyclists (5%) (WHO, 2013:6). Тhe appearance of a larger number of two-wheelers in many countries results in a larger number of traffic accidents involving two-wheelers. Head and neck injuries are the main cause of severe injuries and death among motorcycle users. Wearing a standard, good quality motorcycle helmet can reduce the risk of death by 40% and the risk of serious injury by over 70% (WHO, 2013:18). Considering the importance of systematic and continuous monitoring of the use of helmets, the aim of this paper was to conduct a research based on the established methodology in the municipality of Lazarevac, in order to determine the percentage of use of protection systems for two-wheelers. Results of the conducted research showed that only 4,0% of bicycle riders, 38,7% moped riders and 71,4% of motorcycle riders use a helmet in the local community of Lazarevac. In addition, a survey was conducted in order to determine the attitudes and behavior of moped and motorcycle drivers in Lazarevac, regarding the use of helmets. Also, it has been found that only 7,0% of bicycle riders, 2,0% of moped riders and 43,5% of motorcycle riders use other protection systems, such as clothing, footwear and other protective equipment. Results and main conclusions of these researches represent a tool for identifying problems at local and national levels, provide the selection of appropriate measures for solving problems and monitoring the effects of implemented measures.
