Abstract:
Young road fatalities impose huge cost on individuals, families and entire society too; however, talking about the price of a human life is very difficult. In order to reduce the young road fatalities it is necessary to rise up their road traffic education on higher level. It should be told that, in many countries, young drivers under the age of 25 participate in 20% to 30% of all road traffic accidents. The behaviours, such as mobile phone and music device use by pedestrians when crossing a street, are very unsafe and also much more prominent in young population than in older population. For these and similar reasons, the subject of this article are young road users, namely the students from several faculties within University of Belgrade. They were subjected to the traffic safety survey, whereby their attitudes and self-reported behaviour related to some of road safety indicators (such as speeding, improper street crossing, alcohol-impaired driving and mobile phone use when driving, seat belt use) were investigated. The responses of respondents were recorded and then their comparison was done and the differences were presented. Some of the research goals were to determine whether there is a difference in attitudes and self-reported behaviour among the students from different faculties, as well as to determine whether there are differences related to the gender, education level achieved and average note. Also, the goal was to observe, based on the whole sample, whether there is a difference in attitudes and self-reported behaviour among students.
