Rezime:

Abstract:
Of the total number of people killed in traffic accidents around 21% are children. Statistical data show that of the total number of people killed in traffic accidents, children of male sex are the most affected by road traffic (55%), and the most risky category of children is aged 7-10 years. In the Republic of Serbia, 249 children died in 2006-2017, and 19763 was injured, while in Novi Pazar 5 people were killed and 468 children were injured during this period. The subject of work is children who are pedestrians of the third and fourth grade in the area of two primary schools, and the aim is to determine their behavior in traffic. The paper presents a comparative analysis of the self - reported and observed behavior of children as a pedestrian. Two surveys were conducted in two working days in January and October 2018. The survey survey was carried out using a pre-prepared form and included 402 children, 201 children from schools located in the rural and urban part of the city, while field research was conducted at locations in front of elementary schools. The results pointed to the unsafe behavior of children of pedestrians when crossing the street at a traffic light, crossing the street behind a bus, marking a pedestrian crossing and visiting the obstacle on the sidewalk. The obtained results can help in the selection of adequate measures for improving the safety of children in traffic in Novi Pazar.
