Abstract: Transportation of dangerous goods is a special type of transport which is related to the highest risks in the transportation process. Vehicles transporting dangerous goods participate in the total transport in a very small percentage, so traffic accidents including these vehicles are rare. If a traffic accident occurs on part of the transportation road that passes through a settlement, the consequences of the traffic accident directly affect the local community, not only the participants in the accident. Selecting the route for the movement of vehicles transporting dangerous goods without conducting a quantification of the level of risk within each route would lead to the possibility of a wrong choice, and therefore potentially large consequences that can be caused by the transported dangerous goods. Bearing this in mind, this paper presents a model of route selection for the movement of vehicles transporting dangerous goods. On the basis of the parameters which define the specific risk, risk matrices were formed whose output was the size of the specific risks for each observed section. Comparing the sizes of the risk of individual sections, routes for the movement of vehicles transporting dangerous goods were established. The proposed model was tested in the city of Kragujevac, and the output was the routes for the movement of these vehicles with the lowest specific risk.
