Putevi predstavljaju značajne resurse i najvažnije javne investicije jedne zemlje.

Abstract:
Roads are valuable resources and the most important public investment of a country. Road network is the basis for the good functioning of all aspects of a country, and two-lane national roads are one of the most important functional part of the road network. The significance of these roads is reflected in high participation percentage in the total road network and the size of the transport work that is actualized on them. According to general understanding of the functional system of roads it is often impossible to provide a high level of service (safe and undisturbed movement of vehicles on the roads) with realization of optimal speed. Reaching wanted efficiency and maintaining safety, needs application of unconventional solutions in the design of two-lane roads. The experience of European countries indicates that the application of the two-lane profile "2 + 1" can be an adequate solution, because rational investment increases the possibility of overtaking, road capacity, level of service and level of safety in the traffic flow. This profile consists of two traffic lanes, one for each of the driving directions and one lane for overtaking, used interchangeably. The aim of this paper is to look at the best practices of European countries in the application of the aforementioned profile and in pointing out the possibility of improving the network of two-lane roads in our country.
