Abstract: The emerging number of children early begin to use computer, mobile phones with touch screen or tablet PCs. We analyzed a traditional and contemporary testing approach from children aged from 7 to 9 years because even they rarely independently participate in traffic, they represent a vulnerable group from the point of view of road safety. A traditional approach involves paper-based testing, while a contemporary approach implies solving the same problems by using computers and tablet PCs. The nonverbal abilities tests related to the recognition of geometric shapes and relations left, right, longer or shorter, which were given with symbols on the road signs were used in the study. Testing was conducted on a sample of 25 children from urban area. The contributions of this work include the test material description, the experimental results, and comparative analysis of performances for different kind of media. The purpose of this study was to determine potencial differences which arise in the different approaches of testing children and to use obtained results in the education of children in the field of road safety.
